Balancing Act The Horse in Sport-an Irreconcilable Conflict?, Heuschmann, Gerd
109 Heuschmann, Gerd Balancing Act The Horse in Sport-an Irreconcilable Conflict?
North Pomfret, VT Trafalgar Square Books 2012 1570765294 / 9781570765292 First Edition First Printing; Hardcover New
Hard cover is glazed boards, white spine with black and red lettering. Translated from the original German by Coralie Hughes. Lavishly illustrated with dozens of color and b/w photographs and diagrams, this is another exceptional book from the noted Dr. Heuschmann. "Books can't change the world byt they can demonstrate where abuse is happening and inspire new ways of thinking. A veterinarian, Dr. Heuschmann first completed professional horsemanship training ('Pferdewirt) , then received the Stensbeck medal. For many years has devoted himself to horse friendly training methods ...as the leading opponent of forceful methods, he crusaded against 'Rollkur'...has made a name for himself as an expert in the field of biomechanics. ..." I would like to advise every horseman never to judge different philosophies before having tried them because we can learn a lot from each other. On the other hand: Never accept training methods, which are based on constraint and subordination of the horse by force! Some of the chapters are: Horse Sport; Riding; Horse and Sport; Training; the Seat; Influenece; Collection; the Poll; Rein Lameness; Fundamentals; summary; Science; riding cultures; Basicd rules of Conduct in Horse Sport; Imdex. Oversized, 4#. Sport Horses of the world [and the owners and trainers that love them] are grateful for Dr. Heuschmann's advocacy for correct, humane and fair treatment of our wonderful partners. ; B & W and Color; 0.9 x 10.3 x 8.3 Inches; xvii. 238 pages

112 Hinrichs, Richard Schooling Horses In Hand A Means of Suppling and Collection
North Pomfret, VT Trafalgar Square Publishing 2001 1570762058 / 9781570762055 First Edition Hardcover New in New dust jacket
Cover is dark green with gold lettering on spine. Multiple copies available. Pages are clean and tight; this is a NEW book, still in publisher's shrinkwrap. Extensively illustrated with color and b/w photos and drawings. Foreword by Brig. Kurt Albrecht. Sections are: Longeing; Work in Hand; Long Reining; Airs Above the Ground. "For centuries horses have been trained in hand within the classical schools of riding...Hinrichs, an acknowledged expert on schooling in hand, presents his training program showing how schooling form the ground builds trust, obedience and balance in the horse. He clearly demonstates that in-hand work is an excellent way of supporting and complementing work under saddle and can be especially helpful for riders striving to achieve the higher-level movements for dressage competition". At the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, and the Cadre Noir in Saumur, France, it is traditional to show in hand work during a performance. This is a classical way to start horses in piaffe and passage, as well as the airs above the ground. Excellent book on a frequently neglected aspect of training, and a valued title in my own collection. ; Photographs; 6 1/2 x 9 3/4; 160 pages; Cover has very slight bumping.
