5 De La Gueriniere, Francois Robichon, Foreword by Paul Belasik School Of Horsemanship
London J. A. Allen & Co. , Ltd. 2003 0851315755 / 9780851315751 Hardcover New in New dust jacket Illustrated by Charles Parrocel
Cover is brown with gold lettering on the front and the spine. Yellow endpapers. Pages are clean and tight, still crisp. This is a NEW book. Translated by Tracy Boucher. This is the 2003 reprint. De la Gueriniere was born in about 1688, and died in 1751. Extensively illustrated with b/w engravings by Charles Parrocel. This book first appeared in Paris in 1729, where Gueriniere had his famous ecuyer. Alois Podhajsky, late director of the Spanish Riding School: "the most revolutionary book on riding of all times"; Sylvia Loch: "If the word greatness is to be accorded to only one of the individual Masters whose work is reviewed in this book...Gueriniere must achieve this accolade. This committed equestrian inspired the world of classical dressage...has become the authoritative bible of the dressage world...It is a lucid compilation of all the methods and principles of the French Masters to that date...to this day, is is still widely quoted, and remains the source by which most, if not all, equestrian arguments may be settled". This tome is divided into a treatise on the nature and conformation of horses, including information on 18th century horse care, shoeing and tack; a section on veterinary medicine; and a glossary. The foreword by modern master Paul Belasik: as a single individual he transcended even his own France. He is mentioned in practically every book on dressage in one way or another. He is historically crucial to the development of dressage in his actions as a modernising arbitrator...his words are practical and still relevant. He also helped to develop the shoulder-in, along with William Cavendish, Duke of Newcastle [another notable equestrian authority]. The shoulder-in is one of the favorite moves for myself and my horse, a great base from which to move on to other work. A gorgeous, wonderful book, magnificently translated by a horseman, who brings the passion behind the words to life. I cherish my copy of this book, and any serious fan of dressage will need to include this volume in their collection. Very oversized, 6#. HVMM**. ; B&W Illustrations; 8 3/4 x 11 1/4; 330+ pages; DJ in a mylar cover.

6 Belasik, Paul The Essential Paul Belasik Riding Towards the Light; Exploring Dressage Technique; the Songs of Horses
North Pomfret, VT Trafalgar Square Publishing 2002 1570762120 / 9781570762123 First Edition First Printing; Hardcover Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
Inscribed on front end paper "TO ANNE, BEST WISHES, PAUL BELASICK". Cover is green with gold lettering on spine. Pages are clean and tight, DJ in mylar cover. This is the first compilation of Paul's original three books, now bound together as one title. For anyone who rides dressage, wanting to know why, and how, and how to do it better, what should it feel like and look like, this is absolutely the most perfect book. In these three titles Paul takes you along on his journey, training with modern masters, reading and learning all he can about previous masters, always seeking the purest, best way to achieve the ultimate perfection of horse and rider as one, dancing partners, floating together in unison through the equestrian art of dressage. If you've had the privilege of watching Paul teach, and ride [I've luckily done so many times], you understand how he is truly to be considered a modern master. If you've had the even rarer privilege of seeing Paul and Eli [the late St. Graal], doing the levade about 10 feet away from you [as I have], creating equestrian art with every move, from living flesh, including tempis, passage, piaffe, pirouettes, and so forth, then the tingle going up your spine makes you realize that riding perfection isn't just a fantasy, it does exist here on earth; alas, a dream achieved by the few, but eternally sought by most dressage riders. Paul writes as well as he rides, bringing you along on his quest and into his thoughts. He is included in Martin Diggle's 'Masters of Equitation' series [those titles are also available]. With Dr. Hilary Clayton [McPhail Chair Emerita at Michigan State Univ] he has assisted in ground breaking studies of equine biomechanics and locomotion [Dr. Clayton's books are also available]. Excellent companion books to this title: Masters of Equitation on Trot; Masters of Equitation on Canter [both edited by Martin Diggle], and Conditioning Sport Horses, the classic by Dr. Hilary Clayton; all are available in my listings. Multiple copies of all of these books are available. ; B&W Illustrations; 6 1/2 x 9 1/2; 128, 144, 125 pages; Signed by Author
