Richmond, VA Denlinger's 1954 First Edition Hardcover Very Good+
Hardcover is red [of course] with gold lettering on front and spine, along w/ gold blind stamped picture of bust of an Irish setter. Endpapers have pictures of postage stamps which feature dogs assisting humans. Illustrated with dozens of b/w pictures, some of the dogs in show stance, others showing them in art, etc. Laid in is article, probably from the Detroit News, by Harvey Barcus, President of the Dog Writer's Association of America, 1960-62. Frontispiece is portion of a painting by Sir Anthony van Dyck, showing child and Irish setter [Iersche Setter]. Originally published with 384 pages; this copy has Part II, an extra 160 pages, covering general care, feeding, breeding, medical. Includes 5 appendices. Extremely scarce to find this expanded edition. And for those of us who have loved and adored an Irish setter, and had them own your heart, it's a book you won't want to pass by. ; Another Denlinger Book Series; B&W Photographs; 6 x 9 1/4; 544 pages; Cover has bumping, shelf wear, light rubbing/scuffing; gift note on back of front endpaper, in tidy blue ink, dated 29 March 1959. Some pages have very minor crease at corner, but does not come near picture or text.
