Illustrated by the author's mother, the internationally known folk artist, Malcah Zeldis, who has paintings hanging in many US and foreign museums. Every page has a brilliantly colored illustration, really bringing the text to life. This is the internationally renowned story of Anne Frank, and her family, who hid in a building annex in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from 1942-1944, before being betrayed to the Nazis and shipped off to concentration camps, where Anne and her sister Margot died of typhus, Anne was just 15 years old. Her father Otto was the only one of the eight from the Annex who survived the war. Anne wrote in a diary she had recieved on her 13th birthday, chronicling the everyday life of hiding in the annex, with her family and then four others, always afraid of betrayal and discovery. At the same time she was a typical young girl, with a young girl's hopes and dreams, of which she writes, and pictures of movies stars pasted on the walls. A version suitable for younger children, which while accurate, is not horrifying in its retelling, but honest and thoughtful. ; Color Illustrations; 4to, 9 1/4 x 11; 30 pages; Slight bumping on book.
