Author Name Topping, Brett and Nancy G. Heller Title The Age Of Grandeur And A Woman Who Lived It Artist Evelyn Metzger Binding Softcover Book Condition New Edition First Edition (?) Publisher Washington, D. C. National Museum of Women in the Arts 1995 ISBN Number 0940979284 / 9780940979284 Seller ID 1607 Pages are clean and tight; this is a NEW book; still in publisher's shrink wrap. Extensively illustrated with 100+ color and b/w pictures. Evelyn was born in New York in 1911, the daughter of well-to-do aesthetes. Her parents had been traveling to Europe and around the USA for years before her birth, and they took their children with them, as they continued to visit museums and enhance their already extensive art collection. She was educated at the Horace Mann high school, a place noted for its rigorous, demanding and progressive curriculum, where she excelled. From there she entered Vassar College in 1928, and from there, with some ups and downs due to the vicissitudes of the stock market and the Great Depression, she continued her globetrotting life, always living in the best circles. She'd run into the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in an elevator, and so forth.. Fascinating biography of a woman who lived her life with great zest. Oversized, 4#. ; Photographs; 9 1/4 x 11 1/2; 263 pages; Very slight bumping.
